Sleeping In The Forest
I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts, her pockets full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before, a stone on the riverbed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars but my thoughts,
and they floated light as moths among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms breathing around me,
the insects, and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling with a luminous doom.
By morning I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.

Deb, a truly enchanting poem and the perfect image to share with the words.
what a beautiful thought...the place in the photo is amazing. i can close my eyes, and imagine i can smell the earthiness, feel the soft moss under my toes, and hear the rush of the water flowing through!
beautiful poem and imagery. I also love your new banner, you are so clever - I still can't figure out how to create even one.

Such a beautiful image to go with the powerful images in the poem. I feel as if the poetess has been dipping into my dreams of "something better" and the photographer captured just where my dreams lead.
